Volleyball picks up pair of wins over the weekend, extending winning streak to 5

(Sylvania, OH) - The Rochester Christian women's volleyball team headed down to Ohio for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday against the Yellow Jackets of Defiance and the Gray Wolves of Lourdes. The Warriors picked up a pair of wins over the two days, including a 3-2 win over DC and a 3-0 sweep against Lourdes. 

 

FRIDAY - ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 3, DEFIANCE 2

Playing in its third straight five-set match, the Warriors battled back once again from a 2-1 deficit to pull out the 3-2 win. 

 

Alivia Everitt gave RCU its first point of the evening. After a tight first half of the set, the Warriors' offense began to take a strangle hold scoring multiple streaks of three points, grabbing a 19-13 lead. The final six RCU points saw Kendal Zeiter earn a pair of kills, and Madelyn Geisenhaver, Hannah Maynard, and Everitt all earn points. 

 

Set two saw the Warriors jump out to a 9-4 lead, led by Hailee Mancogna with three kills. The Yellow Jackets would slowly crawl its way back into the set, tying the match at 15 while in the midst of a seven-point streak. DC pushed the score up to 24-17, before RCU made a comeback attempt, with Mackenzie Keefer and Madelyna Geisenhaver earning kills, but was not enough as Defiance won the set 25-22. 

 

The third set was back and forth scoring throughout most of the set. Alivia Everitt gave RCU its first two points of the set with kills. Chante Hudgins and Hailee Mancogna each helped the Warriors climb back to an 11-11 tie, following a DC run. The Yellow Jackets responded right away with a 7-1 run. RCU right away got its own 7-2 run to draw back within a point. DC though would be able to score the final three points to go up 2-1. 

 

For the second time this match, RCU jumped out to a 9-4 lead with kills coming from Chnate Hudgins, Alivia Everitt, and Hailee Mancogna, while Ashley Horne added an ace. The two teams would continue to trade points throughout the set as the match would eventually see a tie at 22. The teams continued scoring with another four ties, before Hudgins evened the match score at 2 with a kill and a solo block. 

 

The Warriors started the final set of the evening with a 5-3 lead, as Hailee Mancogna and Kendal Zeiter each scored points. DC tied the set up at eight points a piece and that began the final back and forth battle of the night. Following a 13-13 tie, RCU would earn the final two points on a pair of DC errors. 

 

SATURDAY - ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 3, LOURDES 0

Saturday's match saw the Warriors take down the Gray Wolves in straight sets for the second straight time against Lourdes. 

 

A tight first set saw a 26-24 final score, began with Alivia Everitt netting a kill. Madelyn Geisenhaver served four straight points with Chante Hudgins earning a kill and Hailee Mancogna getting a solo block. A six-point run in the middle of the set for Lourdes amde it a 15-15 tie. The teams continued to trade points until Lourdes had a 24-21 lead, forcing an RCU timeout. The Warriors came out of the timeout strong with Geisenhaver earning a pair of kills, and Mancogna and Everitt also earning a kill a piece and Hannah Maynard serving an ace to close out the 26-24 win. 

 

After gaining a 8-3 lead, the Gray Wolves never got within five points for the remainder of the set. Alivia Everitt once again started the set with the point. The Warriors were able to take advantage of multiple Lourdes errors, enroute to the 25-15 win in set 2. 

 

The third and final set started the same as the previous two with Alivia Everitt scoring the first three points. Madelyn Geisenhaver pushed the lead from 6-4 to 16-4 with her ten-point serve streak, earning an ace in that stretch. The rest of the set closed out with the teams trading points back-and-forth until RCU earned the 25-11 win. 

 

UP NEXT

The Warriors will have a pair of games on homecoming weekend with a home match on Friday, October 24, against Kuyper and on Saturday, October 25, against the Siena Heights Saints. The Friday match will start at 7 PM, while the Saturday match will start at 12 PM.
