Volleyball drops out of WHAC semifinals against Aquinas
(Grand Rapids, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's volleyball team headed to the west side of the state for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) semifinals as they would take on the top-seeded Aquinas Saints. The Warriors, making their first appearance in the semifinal, would ultimately fall to the #21-ranked Saints, 3-0.
Madelyn Geisenhaver got the first kill for the Warriors in the match with an assist from Mackenzie Keefer. Aquinas would continue their scoring run, jumping out to a 12-5 lead. From that point, the two teams would start to exchange points with Alivia Everitt and Chante Hudgins earning kills. AQ closed out the set, scoring nine of the final 13 points.
The first couple of RCU points would come from AQ service errors, and Hailee Mancogna earned the first kill for the Warriors. The Warriors and Saints continued to battle back-and-forth, with the score tied at 13, before AQ scored eight of the next 15 points. The Saints would score the final four points of the set.
The final set of the evening saw Hannah Maynard starting the set with a service ace. Madelyn Geisenhaver added three straight kills for the Warriors as they kept close with the Saints. A kill from Kendal Zeiter and an Ashley Horne service ace gave RCU an 11-10 lead. The Saints would start a scoring run with 15 of the final 24 points.
TOP PERFORMERS
Madelyn Geisenhaver and Chante Hudgins led the team with seven kills each. Mackenzie Keefer recorded 18 assists in the match.
Ashley Horne led the team with 16 digs in the game, while Hannah Maynard and Madelyn Geisenhaver both tallied nine. Chante Hudgins blocked four total shots, with Mackenzie Keefer blocking three.
