Volleyball win streak snapped at Cornerstone
(Grand Rapids, MI) - The Rochester Christian volleyball team headed to Grand Rapids to square up against the Golden Eagles from Cornerstone on Wednesday evening. Cornerstone took advantage right away in set one to pull out the 3-0 win. RCU falls to 19-9 overall and 12-5 in conference play, while Cornerstone improves to 21-6 and 13-4 in conference play.
Alivia Everitt had the first RCU point of the set off an attack, with Hailee Mancogna earning a kill as well. RCU kept it close with another kill, this time coming from Madelyn Geisenhaver. The Golden Eagles would take command in the set using a six-point streak to take a 12-4 lead. A trio of CU errors and a Geisenhaver kill would give RCU its final points of the set. CU scored the final eight points to take the first set.
The second set saw a back-and-forth battle in a set that saw nine ties from 5-5 to 18-18. Kendal Zeiter paced the offense with multiple kills in the set to keep the Warriors within striking distance. CU would come out of a timeout and score the final eight of nine points to take set two.
The final set of the evening saw another back-and-forth battle. Mackenzie Keefer and Madelyn Geisenhaver got the Warriors on the board to start the set. RCU took multiple one-point leads in the set, but CU was able to battle back and tie it up each time. A Mackenzie Keefer and Alivia Everitt combined block forced a CU timeout at 18-17. The Golden Eagles' offense would explode for the final time on the night, yet again scoring eight of the final nine points.
TOP PERFORMERS
Kendal Zeiter and Hailee Mancogna paced the Warriors' offense with seven and six kills, respectively. Mackenzie Keefer made 26 assists in the match as well.
The defense was led by Ashley Horne with 12 digs, with Madelyn Geisenhaver and Mackenzie Keefer tallying nine and eight, respectively. Alivia Everitt led the team with three blocks, and Chante Hudgins had two solo blocks.
