Volleyball sweeps season series against the Wolverines

(Dearborn, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's volleyball team headed down to Dearborn, Michigan, to face off against the Wolverines of Michigan-Dearborn. The Warriors completed the regular-season sweep against UMD in straight sets. RCU improved to 13-8 and 7-4 on the season, while Michigan-Dearborn fell to 2-17 and 0-11 in conference play. 

Alivia Everritt started the scoring for the Warriors, grabbing the first kill. Five of the next seven points would go the way of RCU, with Madelyn Geisenhaver earning a kill and an ace, while Chante Hudgins and Hailee Mancogna also added kills. After the teams battled to a 12-12 tie, the following five points would the the way of RCU with Hailee Mancogna adding a pair of kills. UMD worked its way back to a 20-18 deficit before the Warriors grabbed the final five points for the 1-0 lead. 

A pair of service errors gave RCU its first points of the set. RCU used a trio of UMD errors and a kill from Kendal Zeiter to take a 10-8 lead. Five of the next six points gave RCU a 15-10 lead. A kill from Hailee Mancogna broke a UMD scoring run, which sparked the Warriors to score the final eight points in the set. 

Alivia Everitt once again started the RCU scoring with a kill, which was the start of a 6-2 run, where Madalyn Geisenhaver and Chante Hudgins added kills. Another big RCU run saw the Warriors down 7-6 and pull ahead 13-8, with Chante Hudgins grabbing a pair of kills. The two teams would continue to battle back and forth throughout the set until a 4-1 run ended the match, with Alivia Everitt scoring three of the points. 

TOP PERFORMERS

Chante Hudgins and Alivia Everitt each recorded 11 kills to lead the team. Mackenzie Keefer assisted on 25 of the Warriors' attacks.

Ashley Horne and Mackenzie Keefer led the back line, both recording double-digit digs with 11 and 10, respectively. Kendal Zeiter (2 solo and 2 assisted), Chante Hudgins (4 assisted), and Alivia Everitt (4 assisted) led the team in blocks.

The Warriors will return home on Friday, October 10, to play host to Madonna University with a 7 PM first serve.
