Volleyball drops match to Indiana Tech on Saturday
(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's volleyball team hosted the Warriors from Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) matchup. Three tight sets would fall in the way of Indiana Tech as they would earn a 3-0 victory over RCU. Rochester Christian would fall to 12-8 overall on the season and 6-4 in conference play, while Indiana Tech improves to 13-9 overall and 6-4 in WHAC play.
The first set of the day had RCU jump out to a 6-2 lead with Kendal Zeiter grabbing the first point. After an 8-4 IIT run, the set was tied at 10. The two teams would trade points until RCU grabbed a 19-15 lead off back-to-back Chante Hudgins kills. Indiana Tech battled its way back into the match, scoring nine of the next 10 points to lead 24-20. Following a couple of RCU points, Indiana Tech scored the 25th point.
Rochester Christian would once again get out to an early 6-3 lead and would start a back-and-forth battle with IIT. An Alivia Everitt ace would once again tie the set for the fourth time, before Indiana Tech's offense got hot once again as they scored six of the next eight points. RCU attempted a comeback with kills from Madelyn Geisenhaver and Alivia Everitt, but Indiana Tech was able to grab the final point in the set for the 2-0 lead.
Indiana Tech's offense continued its hot streak right away to begin the final set, jumping out to a 7-3 lead. RCU would have a five-point run in the middle of the set, aided by a trio of Hailee Mancogna service aces to bring them within two points. The next six points were split in half, with RCU getting a kill from Alivia Everitt and an ace from Ashley Horne. After an IIT timeout, they would score the final six points to finish the match.
TOP PERFORMERS
Chante Hudgins led the team in the attacking department with nine kills, while Alivia Everitt recorded seven, and Hailee Mancogna and Madelyn Geisenhaver each had five. Mackenzie Keefer tallied 23 assists on the day.
Madelyn Geisenhaver, Alivia Everitt, and Chante Hudgins each led the front-line defense with two blocks. Ashley Horne and Madelyn Geisenhaver led the backline with 12 digs each, while Mackenzie Keefer added in 10.
