Volleyball sweeps Siena Heights to win third straight

(Adrian, MI) - The Rochester Christian volleyball team looked to continue its strong play on Saturday when they traveled to Siena Heights. The Warriors would end up sweeping the Saints as they moved to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Saints would fall to 7-9 overall and 2-5 in WHAC play. 

 

RCU got the scoring started in set #1 with a 4-0 lead, getting kills from Madelyn Geisenhaver, Hailee Mancogna, and Alivia Everitt. The RCU offense kept the pressure up on the Saints, with the Warriors pushing the lead out to 18-12 at one point on a Madelyn Geisenhaver ace. SHU grabbed a slight 21-20 lead late in the first set, Kendal Zeiter grabbed a pair of kills and Hannah Maynard got an ace for the final point. 

 

Kendal Zeiter and Alivia Everitt opened the scoring in the set and Hannah Maynard earned an ace to give RCU a 4-3 lead that would see the final lead change in the set as RCU would start to pull away. Midway through the set Alivia Everitt tallied three straight aces for a 18-12 lead. Cahnte Hudgins and Kendal Zeiter accounted for five of the final seven points for the 2-0 lead. 

 

Chante Hudgins tallied the first point in what would be the final set of the day. RCU took control of the first half of the set, getting kills from Kendal Zeiter and Kourtney Mack. SHU would then go on to record nine straight points to take a 17-13 lead. The Warriors battled back to a tie at 20 points on a Hailee Mancogna service ace. Following an SHU point, Mackenzie Keefer sparked a five out of six point run to complete the 3-0 sweep. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

A pair of Warriors tallied double digit kills with Kendal Zeiter leading the duo with 11 kills, while Chante Hudgins finished 10 attacks. Mackenzie Keefer tallied 26 assists in the game. 

 

Two Warriors recorded at least 10 digs in the game, led by Ashley Horne with 15, while Hannah Maynard tallied 10. Chante Hudgins led the frontline defense with three blocks as Madelyn Geisenhaver, Mackenzie Keefer, and Alivia Everitt each had two.
