Volleyball hands Defiance first WHAC loss of Season

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's volleyball team took on the Defiance College Yellow Jackets for a second straight day of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play. The Warriors' offense continued its solid streak of hitting, boasting a team hitting percentage of .357, as they secured their second straight sweep of a conference opponent. 

 

The Warriors improve their record to 10-6 and 4-2, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 12-6 and 5-1

 

After a 4-0 lead for the Yellow Jackets, RCU battled back and was able to tie the match up at 9. A Chante Hudgins kill sparked a 10-2 run, in which DC used both of their timeouts. Alivia Everitt and Hailee Mancogna also contributed over the final six points, with DC hitting three errors to close out the first set. 

 

Defiance would once again grab the first couple of points to start the second set, before Alviai Everitt started the scoring for RCU. The Yellow Jackets continued to put pressure on the Warriors by staying around a three-point lead. RCU and DC remained close until it was 17-17, when Ashley Horne served the final seven points, earning an ace in that span. 

 

The two teams traded the first two points of the match, before RCU would tack on 10 of the next 12 points with Alivia Everitt and Madelyn Geisenhaver both earning aces and kills. Hailee Mancogna served for eight straight points, grabbing an ace in the process to give RCU a 20-4 lead. Madelyn Geisenhaver and Mackenzie Keefer finished off the set for the Warriors as they swept their third WHAC opponent. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS
Four RCU players recorded at least seven kills in the game as Madelyn Geisenhaver led with nine, Alivia Everitt and Chante Hudgins both recorded eight, while Kendal Zeiter had seven. Everitt and Hudgins led the team in hitting percentage with a .636 and .500 percentage, respectively. Mackenzie Keefer tallied 31 assists. 

 

Madelyn Geisenhaver, Ashley Horne, and Hannah Maynard each dug out double-digit attacks with 14, 12, and 11, respectively. Chante Hudgins and Mackenzie Keefer each tallied three blocks.

The Warriors will be back in action in a week, when they travel to Siena Heights next Saturday, September 27, for a 1 PM start.
