Volleyball sweeps Madonna on the road to move to 2-0 in WHAC play

(Livonia, MI) - The Rochester Christian University Women's Volleyball team continued Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play on Wednesday night, taking on the Crusaders from Madonna University. The Warriors rebounded from early deficits in the first two sets and played a tight fourth set, which saw the Warriors come away with the sweep. RCU is now 7-3 overall and 2-0 in WHAC play, while the Crusaders are now 5-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. 

 

GAME: RCU 3, MU 0

The first set saw Madonna in the lead for the majority, with RCU at most five points back. The Warriors took advantage of a wild MU attack as well as kills from Alivia Everitt, Kourtney Mack, Madelyn Geisenhaver, and Haile Mancogna to stay within striking range. Down 18-13, RCU went on a nine-point run with Ashley Horne serving as she recorded two aces in that run. Kills from Alivia Everitt and Kourtney Mack closed out the first set, 25-21. 

 

RCU scored the first pair of points off blocks from Alivia Everitt and Madelyn Geisenhaver, followed by a kill from Everitt, and Madonna responded, scoring the next seven points. The Warriors battled back, taking more advantage of MU errors, as Madelyn Geisenhaver and Hannah Maynard would earn a couple of aces. Following an 11-11 tie, Rochester Christian scored eight of the next 11 points, as Kendal Zeiter earned her first pair of kills. The final six RCU point of the set came from Chante Hudgins on a kill. 

 

The final set of the evening was tight all the way through, with neither team taking hold of the set. Zeiter earned the first RCU point of the 3rd set. The Warriors gained a 14-10 lead following a Madalyn Geisenhaven point. RCU stayed in the lead until MU was able to take a 22-20 lead. After splitting the next two points, Rochester Christian tallied the next three points with a pair of kills, and then on match point, Alivia Everitt and Madelyn Geisenhaver recorded blocks to round out the match. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

Hailee Mancogna led the way for the Warriors offensively with nine kills, while Kendal Zeiter was behind her with eight, followed by Kourtney Mack and Alivia Everitt with seven. Mackenzie Keefer and Emma Hock nearly split the setting duties, with Keefer recording 19 assists and Hock 17. 

 

Ashley Horne led the back line defense, digging 19 attacks, while Alivia Everitt and Madelyn Geisenhaver totaled five and four blocks, respectively.
