Volleyball splits the final day at the Onset Invitational with a win over Bryan (TN)

(Fort Wayne, IN) - The RCU Women's Volleyball team continued play at the Onset Invitational on Saturday as they took on Bryan (TN) and Spring Arbors. Against Bryan, RCU picked up three straight set wins to sweep the Lions. In the final match against Spring Arbor, SAU was able to pick up a straight-sets win as RCU split day 2 of the Onset Invitational and left with a 3-1 record.
MATCH 1: RCU 3, BRYAN 0
The set was a very tight match as neither team had more than a four-point lead throughout the set. RCU was able to score, though they scored six of the final seven points as they were able to squeak out the 27-25 set win thanks to a couple of kills from Madalyn Geisenhaver and a service ace from Alanna Gray.
The second set saw Bryan get out to a 4-2 lead before RCU's offense was able to go on a 13-5 run to lead 15-10. Alivia Everitt earned a couple of kills in the run as Bryan would tie the set up at 18. The Warriors scored seven of the final nine points, aided by a pair of Geisenhaver service aces to win set 2, 25-23.
Another tight battle early in the set saw RCU never lose the lead after a 5-5 tie. The Warriors scored 11 of the next 14 points to take a strong 16-8 lead in part from a couple of Chante Hudgins and Kendall Zeiter kills. From that point, Haille Mancogna recorded a pair of kills, while Ashley Horne and Alanna Gray each recorded service aces to finish out the set 25-17.
MATCH 2: RCU 0, SAU 3
The first set of the Spring Arbor match was close all the way through, even seeing RCU hold a 14-11 lead midway through the set. Kendal Zeiter recorded five kills in the set to lead the Warriors. Following a 16-16 tie, the Cougars would go on a 9-3 run to win the first set 25-19.
Set 2 was tied at seven following an Alivia Everitt kill, before SAU's offense was able to take advantage of a couple of RCU errors and jumped out to an 18-14 lead, and proceeded to score seven of the final eight points in the set to win 25-15.
The final set of the invite for the Warriors was another tight match, with neither team gaining more than a four-point lead when it was 21-17. Madelyn Geisenhaver, Liljana Margiljaj, and Chante Hudgins led the team in the set with multiple kills each. The Warriors attempted a late comeback, but were unable to overcome the Cougar offense.
STAT LEADERS
Chante Hudgins led the team in kills on Saturday with 15, as Hailee Mancogna was right behind her with 14. Alivia Everitt, Madalyn Geisenhaver, and Kendal Zeiter all recorded double digits as well. Mackenzie Keefer led the team in assists with 48.
On the defensive end, Alivia Everitt tallied six total blocks (5 assisted and 1 solo) while Ashley Horne, Hannah Maynard, and Madelyn Geisenhaver recorded 26, 19, and 16 digs, respectively.

The team will next travel to the Texas Two Step Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas as they will take on Louisiana Christian and Kansas Wesleyan on August 29th.
