Women's Basketball falls to Indiana Tech in WHAC Championship

(Fort Wayne, IN) - The Rochester Christian women's basketball team competed on Monday night in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament Championship against the Indiana Tech Warriors. IIT's hot shooting on the evening (50% from the field & 46% from three) saw Indiana Tech earn the Tournament title. RCU falls to 21-10  on the season. 

 

FIRST HALF

Indiana Tech scored the first six points in the game before Jacey Somers hit a three-pointer. IIT would then go on a 9-2 run in the quarter, until Rambre Williams and Samone Andrews added four points to make it 15-9 after the first 10 minutes of play. 

 

Jacey Somers grabbed the first RCU points in the quarter, before a nearly three-minute scoring drought from both sides was broken by Indiana Tech. Samone Andrew scored the next six RCU points before the end of the first half of play. 

 

SECOND HALF

The two teams would trade buckets to kick off the second half, with Amal Younes hitting a layup for RCU. The final 7:41 of the quarter had Indiana Tech go on a 19-11 run, hitting five three-pointers. RCU's points would come from Ashley Loon, Tambre Williams, Shahd Bakkar, Jordan Peterson, and Sameone Andrews. 

 

The three-point shooting from Indiana Tech continued in the final period, with the first three buckets coming from deep. Tambre Williams earned the opening bucket for RCU with a layup as she and Samone Andrews would combine for the next eight points. Jacey Somers would then score five straight points, including a three-pointer, with Ashley Loon hitting a layup and Kendal Zeiter scoring a free throw to round up the Championship.  

 

TOP PERFORMERS

A pair of RCU players scored in double figures, with Samone Andrews leading the team with 19 points, while Jacey Somers scored 12. Amal Younes tallied three assists in the game. 

 

Timbre Williams was top of the team with six rebounds, while Amal Younes pulled down five. Ashley Loon and Shahd Bakkar each created two turnovers.
