Women's Basketball closes regular season with fifth straight win
(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's basketball team headed to Madonna to close out the regular season against the Crusaders. RCU built an early lead and led by 21 points at the half en route to securing the #2 seed in the upcoming WHAC Tournament that begins next week. RCU improves to 19-9 on the season and 18-4 in WHAC play.
FIRST HALF
The Warriors opened the game up with a quick 6-1 run over the first 1:04 in the game. Samone Andrews, Kendal Zeiter, and Jacey Somers scored right away. After three scoreless minutes, Jacey Somers and Ashley Loon hit a three-pointer. Shahid Bakkar and Somers closed out the scoring in the period.
A scoreless first minute of the quarter saw Samone Andrews break the drought with a three-pointer, jump-starting a 9-4 run over the next two minutes. Tambre Williams added the next five RCU points, advancing the Warrior lead out to 18 points. Before the halftime break, Amal Younes and Karmyn Lowry would get into the scoring column for RCU.
SECOND HALF
For the third quarter in a row, Samone Andrews scored the first points of the half with another three-pointer, with Ashley Loon hitting another three as well the next time down the court for the offense. Teams would start to trade empty possessions with a couple of points from each end as Chloe Sakalas and Jordan Peterson were able to get in on the scoring.
Samone Andrews made it four quarters in a row, scoring the first RCU points, with a jumper, nearly two minutes into the period. The teams would continue by trading points back and forth with Andrews and Amal Younes hitting more three's, while Jordan Peterson and Tambre Williams closed out the scoring in the game.
TOP PERFORMERS
Samone Andrews led the team offensively with 18 points, the most between both teams. Ashley Loon added 10 points. Jacey Somers led the passing with five assists.
Timbre Williams recorded double-digit rebounds in the game with 10, while Amal Younes tallied six.
