Women's Basketball earns the Senior Day win over the Cougars

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian men's basketball team returned home to take on the Cleary Cougars on RCU's Senior Day. The Warriors were able to outscore the Cougars in each period, while shooting 51% from the field and 42% from deep to earn the win. RCU improves to 17-9 overall and 16-4 in conference play.
FIRST HALF
Jacey Somers scored the first eight RCU points, including a pair of three-pointers, as RCU moved out to a 10-3 lead to start the game. The three-point barrage to start the game continued with Ashley Loon and Amal Younes hitting another back-to-back three-pointers. After six straight from Cleary, Kendal Zeiter and Samone Andrews closed out the quarter with a pair of shots.
The two teams came out shooting hot to start the second period, with Cleary holding a slim 8-6 lead over the first 3:43. Kendal Zeiter would then score five straight, including an "and-1" basket, before Shahd Bakkar and Samone Andrews closed out the half.
SECOND HALF
Karmyn Lowry began the second half by hitting a three-point shot, as RCU opened the half with a 10-3 run and forced a Cleary timeout. Cleary nabbed a couple of points before Samone Andrews points, and Kendal Zeiter and Ashley Loon hit multiple free throws to close out the third period with a nine-point lead.
The final period saw neither team hit a field goal over the first 3:13, with the sole points coming from free throws. Shahid Bakkar broke that streak with a three-pointer, jump-starting a 12-1 run. Cleary picked up the pressure with a press over the final three minutes, but the Warriors were able to break through and close out with a 16-point win.
TOP PERFORMANCES
Four Warriors scored in double figures in the game, with Samone Andrews leading all scorers with 20 points, while Kendal Zeiter, Ashley Loon, and Jacey Somers scored 16, 14, and 10, respectively. Zeiter led the passing attack with five assists.
Kendal Zeiter recorded a team high seven rebounds, with Ashley Loon bringing down five. Loon, Zeiter, and Mylah Aalse both had a pair of steals in the game.
