Women's Basketball drops tight battle against Lourdes

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's basketball team played its second straight home game as it looked to avenge an earlier season loss to the Lourdes Gray Wolves on Wednesday evening. The Gray Wolves used the middle two periods in order to leave the Garth Pleasant Arena with the 71-63 victory.

FIRST HALF

The back-and-forth game began with Lourdes earning four of the first six points, with Jacey Somers scoring the first RCU points. Samone Andrews grabbed the next five points for the Warriors, while LU built up a slim lead. Jacey Somers got on the board again with an "and-1" and Amal Younes grabbed a bucket as RCU led 16-13 before the quarter ended.

The battle continued with both teams grabbing and earning early buckets. Ashley Loon hit a three-pointer and a layup before a couple of Lourdes buckets. Samone Andrews knocked down another three-pointer to respond to the Gray Wolves' buckets, as Lourdes led 31-28 at the halfway point.

SECOND HALF

Lourdes saw their lead extend out to nine points after the third quarter, outscoring RCU 23-17. Samone Andrews had the first five points for the Warriors, while Kendal Zeiter scored six of the next eight RCU points. Lourdes ended the period with an 8-4 run.

Kendal Zeiter, Samone Andrews, and Jacey Somers brought the Warriors closer with a 9-2 run over the first 3:06 to open the final period. Lourdes brought the lead back out to 10 points with a 7-0 run. Lourdes would play solid over the final three minutes as they would respond to each RCU bucket, and be able to hold off the potential RCU comeback.
