Women's Basketball drops game against #7 Saint Francis (IN)

(Fort Wayne, IN) - The Rochester Christian women's basketball team traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana, for a matchup against the #7 Saint Francis Cougars. Saint Francis used a 12-point advantage in the second quarter to propel them to a 25-point win. The Warriors' record would drop to 7-6 overall on the season. 

 

FIRST HALF

The Warriors got the scoring started in the game with a Jacey Somers layup on their third possession of the game. Both teams would play tight defense to start the game, as the score remained tied at 2-2 for the first five minutes. Somers and Kendal Zeiter added baskets as RCU moved out to a 6-2 lead shortly following the media timeout. A 9-2 Saint Francis run throughout the final four minutes gave the Cougars an 11-8 lead after the first quarter. 

 

Both teams opened the second period scoring on their first possession, with Emily Lockey grabbing the first RCU points of the period. The Cougars, though, were able to go on a 12-5 run over the next couple of minutes, giving themselves a 10-point lead. Saint Francis continued on another scoring run, pushing the lead to 15 at the halfway point. 

 

SECOND HALF

Jacey Somers opened the third period with a score, and Ashley Loon followed that with a three-pointer. Kendal Zeiter would score the next eight points for the Warriors, though the Cougars would extend their lead out to 18 points. Mylah Aalse made the front end of a pair of layups, and Emily Lockey added a free throw as well before the end of the quarter. 

 

Mylah Aalse hit a three-pointer on the Warriors' first possession, and Kendal Zeiter hit back-to-back baskets to start the quarter. Jacey Somers and Chloe Sakalas would hit buckets midway through the quarter. Shahid Bakkar hit the final bucket of the game for the Warriors. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

A pair of Warriors hit double-digit points, with Kendal Zeiter leading the team with 14 points, while Jacey Somers had 13 points. Amal Younes led the way in the passing department with three assists. 

 

Kendal Zeiter brought down six rebounds in the game, while Ashley Loon and Amal Younes both had four rebounds. Ashley Loon had two steals in the game.

 

UP NEXT

RCU will be back on the court on Monday, January 29, for an exhibition against Detroit Mercy, before returning to WHAC play on January 3 against Cleary University at 1 PM in Lansing, Michigan.
