Women's Basketball hits 10 three's enroute to 21-point victory over Saints

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's basketball team returned to the court following Thanksgiving break with a matchup against the Aquinas Saints. The Warriors' hot shooting from deep and forcing 13 turnovers aided RCU to their fourth conference win of the season and back to .500 on the year overall.

 

FIRST HALF

Both teams opened the game with a two-minute scoreless streak before Kendal Zeiter made a putback for the 2-0 lead. Following Aquinas taking a short-lived lead, Ashley Loon made her first of five three's in the game, which was the first of 11 straight points she would score. AQ tallied four free throws to round out the quarter. 

 

Samone Andrews scored her first two threes of the game, sandwiching Ashley Loon's fourth three-pointer of the game. With the RCU defense playing strong AQ nabbed their first points of the quarter on a layup over three minutes into the period. Tambre Williams recorded a pair of buckets, while Emily Lockey and Jordan Peterson tallied the final buckets of the half. 

 

SECOND HALF

The Warrior offense kept up the scoring to open the second half with Mylah Aalse getting in the scoring column. Following a AQ timeout, the RCU offense went on a 8-2 run, which gave them a 20-point lead, forcing another timeout. Amal Younes added a three-pointer, while Jacey Somers scored her first points. AQ added six points at the end of the quarter. 

 

The three point scoring continued as the teams opened up the fourth quarter with Emily Lockey making a bucket. The teams traded points over the next couple of minutes as the RCU defense continued to play strong. Ashley Loon and Lockey scored back-to-back three's to extend the lead to 26 for RCU. AQ scored the final five points in the game to close out the RCU win. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

Ashley Loon and Samone Andrews were the two Warriors to score in double figures for the evening with Loon tallying 17 and Andrews 12. RCU recorded 22 assists as a team with Andrews and Kendal Zeiter each recording four. 

 

Timbre Williams led the team with nine rebounds off the bench with Kendal Zeiter tallying seven, while Ashley Loon and Jacey Somers both bringing down six rebounds. Zeiter, Somers, and Williams each had two blocks in the game. 

 

UP NEXT

The Warriors will stay home at the Garth Pleasant Arena for a matchup on Saturday, December 6, when they take on the Indiana Tech Warriors with a 1 PM tipoff.
