Women's Basketball downed by Pilots on the road

(Mishawaka, IN) - The Rochester Christian women's basketball team traveled to Indiana for its final game of a three-game stretch against Crossroads League teams, going up against the Bethel Pilots. A tight game throughout the full 40 minutes saw Bethel have the slight advantage in the fourth quarter to earn the eight-point win. 

 

FIRST HALF

Samone Andrews led the game off with the first five points for the Warriors. After a Bethel basket, Kendal Zeiter added a three-pointer and a layup. Following the media timeout, Shahid Bakkar added a "and-1". Ashley Loon scored her first points of the game before the end of the quarter.

 

Amal Younes opened the second quarter scoring for RCU with a layup off an assist from Ashley Loon. Loon recorded her second three of the game on the next possession. Kendal Zeiter and Jacey Somers combined for six RCU points, Zeiter scoring four. The teams continued to trade points. Jordan Peterson made a pair of free throws to close the half. 

 

SECOND HALF

Kendal Zeiter recording a free throw on the Warriors first possession of the second half. Both teams would see a long scoring drought before a pair of BU free throws broke it up and Kendal Zeiter added another layup. Jacey Somers recorded a pair of three's to bring RCU to within two points. 

 

Just as she closed out the third quarter, Somers opened the fourth with a jump shot basket. Both team started to make good on their free throw attempts, Ashley Loon made her first three of the quarter, to bring RCU to within five points. Bethel responded putting the lead back to 14 points, before Samone Andrews scored a bucket. Loon scored another pair of three's before the final buzzer. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

Four Warriors recorded double-digit points, with Ashley Loon leading the way with 19 points off the bench, while Jacey Somers, Kendal Zeiter, and Samone Andrews tallied 14, 13, and 10 points, respectively. Somers led the way with five assists.

 

Kendal Zeiter led the rebounding effort with eight in the game and also led the team with two blocks. Amal Younes tallied three steals off the bench. 

 

UP NEXT

The Warriors will return to WHAC play, traveling to Defiance to face the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, November 18, with a 5:30 PM tipoff.
