Women's Basketball drops game to Spring Arbor on Wednesday afternoon
(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's basketball team continued its short two-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon against the Cougars from Spring Arbor University. The Cougars used a 43-15 advantage in the first half in order to pull away from the Warriors in the game.
FIRST HALF
Jacey Somers grabbed the first points of the game with an "and-1", with SAU grabbing their first points the same way. A couple of possession trades would see Samone Andrews and Kendal Zieter even the game up at seven points apiece. Following six Spring Arbor free throws, Andrews got the Warriors closer with a 3-pointer. The Cougars ended the quarter on a 12-0 run.
Kendal Zeiter grabbed the first point of the quarter for either team over two minutes into the quarter. Samone Andrews broke the SAU 8-0 run, with a jump shot following an RCU timeout. The defenses tightened up as neither team scored over the next two minutes. Shahid Bakkar grabbed a free throw to close out the half for RCU.
SECOND HALF
Jacey Somers and Kendal Zeiter grabbed the first four points of the half for RCU. Following a couple of back-and-forth possessions, Somers continued her scoring with a couple more baskets. Samone Andrews would also add a couple of baskets as the Warriors' defense would start to turn the intensity up, and RCU closed out the quarter on a 10-4 run.
The first RCU points in the quarter came from Mylah Aalse. A couple of RCU steals and blocks on the defensive end would keep the Cougars from grabbing a couple of baskets. Jacey Somers added a late basket to close out the game for RCU.
TOP PERFORMERS
Two Warriors led the charge offensively, scoring in double-figures with Samone Andrews tallying 17 and Jacey Somers tallying 14. Andrews would also go on to lead the game in assists with three.
Shahid Bakkar led the team with six total rebounds, while Kendal Zeiter brought down five. Samone Andrews made three steals in the game. Jacey Somers, Zeiter, and Amal Younes all blocked a pair of shots.
UP NEXT
The Warriors will travel to Mishawaka, Indiana, to face off against the Pilots from Bethel University on Saturday, November 15, with a 12 PM tipoff.
