Women's Basketball falls to hot-shooting Foresters

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's basketball team returned home to face off against the Foresters of Huntington University on Saturday evening for the first game of a three-game stretch against Crossroad League teams. The Warriors were downed by hot shooting by the Foresters who shot 55.6% from deep in the match. 

 

RCU falls to 1-1 on the year, while Huntington improves to 4-2. 

 

FIRST HALF

An opening three-point bucket by the Foresters started their hot shooting. Karmyn Lowry scored the first two points, making a pair of free throws and Ashley Loon added a layup for an early 4-3 lead. The two defenses would see neither team score over the next 1:30, before Shahd Bakkar broke the drought with two free throws. HU would quickly add 18 points for a 18-0 run before Emily Lockey scored to end the first quarter. 

 

Samone Andrews, Jacey Somers, and Mylah Aalse scored 8 of the first 12 points in the quarter. Following a pair of Foresters three pointers Shahd Bakkar and Karmyn Lowry added a couple of layups to get to the media timeout. Out of the timeout, HU scored the next 10 points, before an Andrews layup got the Warriors back on the board. Huntington's would add a buzzer-beating three to end the half. 

 

SECOND HALF

The Forester continued to keep control of the game throughout the second half. Jacey Somers added a jumper and Kendal Zeiter scored a free throw early on in the third period. Jordan Peterson and Mylah Aalse would each also add on buckets for RCU in the quarter. The end of the third saw Karmyn Lowry convert on an "and-1" with 0.9 second remaining. 

 

Mylah Aalse, Jacey Somers, and Shahd Bakkar scored on a 6-0 run for the Warriors in the fourth quarter. Ashley Loon, Lucy Freytag, and Amal Younes added points in the final 1:12 for the Warriors. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

Mylah Aalse led the RCU scoring with nine points, while Shahd Bakkar and Jacey Sommers each totaled eight. 

 

Karmyn Lowry led the defense with four steals, while Kendal Zeiter recorded a pair of blocks in the game. Ashley Loon led the rebounding department with five. 

 

UP NEXT

The Warriors will continue their three-game stretch against Crossroads teams on Wednesday, hosting the Cougars of Spring Arbor at the Garth Pleasant Arena, the game will tip-off at 1 PM.
