INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - It was a groundbreaking day for the Warriors at the 2023-24 WHAC Men's Wrestling Tournament, headlined by Head Coach Wesley Maskill being selected as the conference's Coach of the Year following a 5-1 season. Additionally, the Warriors' Jackson Schenk earned Second Team All-Conference honors, securing a bid to NAIA Nationals alongside teammate Kyle Scott, who secured his third consecutive bid. This marks the first time the Warriors have sent multiple wrestlers to the National Tournament.
Overall, Rochester placed fourth in the tournament, one point behind #RV Lourdes. Schenk secured a second-place finish in the 285 lb. weight class, while three Warriors - Scott (197), Julius Polk (174), and Jager Kwiatkowski (141) - placed in third in their respective weight classes. Three more Warriors - Rico Brown, Dylan Coleman, and Peyton Frederick placed in fourth. Kirgin Tanis, Cristian Rojas, and Nathan Young earned fifth place finishes, while Ronald Solis and Dallas Stanton placed sixth. All Warriors in the event earned placements.
For Maskill, this award marks the first of his career, and marks the first WHAC Coach of the Year award for Rochester University since men's basketball head coach Klint Pleasant and former women's basketball head coach Brent Wichtner took the honors in their respective sports in the same season back in 2020-21. Jackson Schenk's Second Team All-Conference nod is the first in the history of the wrestling program. Nathan Young was selected to be the Warriors' Champions of Character Team Representative.
Additionally, the Warriors had six wrestlers named to the WHAC All-Academic Team - Cristian Rojas, Dillon Coulter, Connor Crinigan, Durell Kline, Kyle Scott, Kirgin Tanis, and Peyton Frederick.
