MEN'S WRESTLING WINS IN THRILLER AGAINST #RV LOURDES
Men's Wrestling (1-0) put up an exciting 24-18 win over the #RV Lourdes Gray Wolves (1-1) in front of a rowdy Garth Pleasant Arena crowd on Wednesday night, with both teams being locked into some thrilling battles throughout the match. Rochester avenged a close 25-24 loss a year ago and will look to continue the momentum into its upcoming conference meets.
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - Men's Wrestling (1-0) put up an exciting 24-18 win over the #RV Lourdes Gray Wolves (1-1) in front of a rowdy Garth Pleasant Arena crowd on Wednesday night, with both teams being locked into some thrilling battles throughout the match. Rochester avenged a close 25-24 loss a year ago and will look to continue the momentum into its upcoming conference meets.
THE RUNDOWN
- The Gray Wolves voided at the 125 lb. weight class, switching #5 Nick Rodriguez to the 133 lb. class, giving Rochester's Daven Lockwood the victory
- Cristian Rojas and Rodriguez faced off in a tightly contested match, with both giving each other limited opportunities at points. Rodriguez secured a takedown that put things away in the final period by decision
- Sophomore Dylan Coleman put on a show for the Warriors in the 141 lb. class with several great maneuvers to put the Gray Wolves' Dru Wilson on his back. Coleman secured a fall in the second round, giving Rochester a 12-3 match lead
- Junior Nathan Young and the Gray Wolves' Cyle Wells would go neck-and-neck, with both wrestlers trading takedowns and escapes throughout each period. In the final period, Young was able to secure a point for riding time, earning him a win by decision
- Rochester gave up two tough bouts in the 157 and 165, with the Gray Wolves winning by decision and technical fall in both classes, respectively
- Sophomore Julius Polk ignited the crowd in an impressive showing for the 174 lb. class, with Polk not allowing much room for Lourdes' Evan Perry to maneuver. Polk established pressure early on and secured a fall that got everyone in Garth Pleasant Arena on their feet
- The excitement only continued when sophomore Kirgin Tanis took on Evan Christo, the WHAC's current third-ranked wrestler in the 184 lb. class. After being down for a good portion of the match, Tanis jostled for a great takedown that forced overtime. In overtime, Tanis and Christo only ramped up the intensity, with Tanis securing the winning takedown after a great sprawl, clinching the Warriors a team victory in the process
- The Gray Wolves took the final two weight classes by decision and major decision, but Rochester remained on top with a 24-18 victory

The Warriors will travel to the Albion Open on Sunday before the long Thanksgiving break.
