Men's Basketball gets past the Blue Devils with 72-64 victory

(Southfield, MI) - The Rochester Christian men's basketball team headed down the road to Southfield, Michigan to square off against the Blue Devils from Lawrence Tech on Wednesday evening. The Warriors were able to take advantage of outsourcing LTU in the first half by eight points in order to come away with a 72-64 win. 

 

The Warriors now improve to 12-5 overall on the season and 7-4 in conference play. 

 

FIRST HALF

Following the Blue Devils earning the first points of the game, Tymias Williams would respond right away with an "and-1" jumper, with Tyler Allen earning a jumper on the next RCU possession. A flurry of missed shots by both teams would be broken up by James Fisher scoring on back-to-back possessions, including a dunk. The two teams would continue by trading free throws back and forth until Darnell Turner Jr. hit a layup. 

 

Tymias Williams would come out of the media timeout with a pair of free throws, followed by a dunk to extend the lead out to 5 points. The Blue Devils though responded by going on a 6-0 run to take the lead. Tyler Allen, Dustin Farrow, James Fisher, Linden Holder, and Williams responded with a 9-0 run to close out the first half with the eight point lead. 

 

SECOND HALF

Tyler Allen recorded the first seven of nine points for the Warriors in the second half, followed by Linden Holder scoring four points with a three-pointer and a free throw. The two teams continued the back-and-forth scoring as James Fisher and Allen would each make a couple of shots from the charity stripe. 

 

Darnell Turner Jr. came out of the under-10 timeout scoring the first five points for the Warriors with a couple of jumpers, before James Fisher added to the scoring to keep LTU at an arm's length. The Blue Devils would ultimately hit on a couple of three's and knock their free throws down, but the Warrior offense would be able to match every attempt, in part from Linden Holder and Turner Jr.

TOP PERFORMERS

All five Warrior starters scored in double figures as the group was led by Tyler Allen with 17 points, while James Fisher recorded 15. Tymias Williams led the team with six assists on the evening.

 

The rebounding effort would also be led by Tyler Allen as he brought down 17 rebounds, which is tied for th fourth-most in a single game in RCU history. Tymias Williams brought down seven rebounds and both he and James Fisher recorded three blocks and two steals.

The Warriors will remain on the road and head to Lima, Ohio, for a WHAC contest against the Racers from Northwestern Ohio on Saturday, January 17, at 3 PM.
