Volleyball sweeps non-conference opponent, Kuyper, on Friday evening

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's volleyball team returned home following a short two-game road trip to square up against the Cougars from Kuyper College. The Warriors took control of the match early, winning the first set 25-20, before earning a tight 26-24 set win, and ultimately winning the final set 25-17. 

 

The Warriors improve their overall record to 18-8, while Kuyper falls to 4-19.  

 

Emma Hock started the match off on the right foot with a service ace. The teams would continue to trade points until the Warriors had a four-point run with Kourtney Mack and Liljana Margiljaj earning kills and Alanna Gray a service ace. RCU kept control of the set, staying up by four points the rest of the way. Mack ended the set with a kill. 

 

Allison Scott aided the Warriors' 4-1 lead to start the second set with a pair of service aces, with Hannah Roddis adding another pair of aces in their second 4-point run of the set. Kuyper took control of the set with a six-point run to go up 14-12, before the Warriors battled back. The teams would see eight more ties throughout the set, with the Warriors getting the final two points from Aisha Gray and a Cougar error. 

 

Early on in what would be the final set of the evening, the teams would trade points to start the set. RCU would start to pull away with Karly Dueck and Alivia Everitt earning a couple of kills that would force a Kuyper timeout. The Warriors would score eight of the final 10 points on the evening, with Aisha Gray earning a trio of kills, and Alyssa Swanson and Chante Hudgins both getting points as well. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

Aisha Gray was the top attacker for the Warriors on Friday evening, converting on nine of her attacks, while Kourtney Mack and Liljana Margiljaj were second with six kills. Alyssa Swanson, Alivia Everitt, and Chante Hudgins all recorded five kills. Emma Hock led the passing with 21 assists, while Hannah Roddis tallied 11. 

 

Alanna Gray and Jordan Look each recorded double-digit digs with 15 and 10, respectively. Alyssa Swanson and Karly Dueck led the front-line defense with four and three blocks, respectively.

The Warriors are right back in action as they will host the Saints from Siena Heights for Homecoming at 1 PM on October 25.
