Volleyball picks up second WHAC sweep as they move to 3-2 in conference play

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's volleyball team continued Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play on Friday evening, taking on the Gray Wolves from Lourdes. The Warriors' offense was solid tonight, hitting a .240 hitting percentage. With the win, the Warriors move to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in WHAC play, while Lourdes drops to 4-7 and 0-5 in WHAC play. 

 

The first set saw the Warriors gain the 1-0 advantage. RCU's offense started hot right away, scoring nine of the first 12 points, with Madelyn Geisenhaver, Alivia Everitt, and Hailee Mancogna each earning a couple of kills. The Gray Wolves rebounded for a couple of points before Ashley Horne would start a serving streak of nine points with a pair of service aces. The two teams finalized the set trading points until RCU scored their final five points. 

 

LU started the scoring in the second set of the evening, jumping out to a 6-3 lead. The LU advantage didn't last long as the Warriors scored the next six points with Hannah Maynard acing two of her serves, forcing a Lourdes timeout. The two teams would battle back and forth, with RCU staying in the lead. RCU was able to push the lead out to six points at 21-15, and scored four of the final seven points, with Madelyn Geisenhaver and Chante Hudgins closing out the set. 

 

Mackenzie Keefer aced the first point of the final set to start the Warriors' offense. Following a 4-4 tie, the Gray Wolves would score four of the next five points and hold an 8-5 advantage. The Warriors slowly clawed their way back into the set, with help from kills from Hailee Mancogna, Kendal Zieter, and Mackenzie Keefer, while Hannah Maynard recorded another ace. The set would see a 14-14 tie before the RCU offense went on another hot streak, scoring nine of the next 11 points to get within two points of a win. The teams traded the final four points, with Kendal Zeiter getting both of RCU's final two points. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

The top hitter on the team was Kendal Zeiter with 11 kills and a .429 hitting percentage, with Chante Hudgins (7 kills), Alivia Everitt (6 kills), and Hailee Mancogna (6 kills) right behind her. Mackenzie Keefer recorded a season-high 31 assists in the match. 

 

Madelyn Geisenhaver led the defensive back line with 16 digs in the match, while Ashley Horne tallied 12. Chante Hudgins blocked three LU attacks to lead the team.

The Warriors are right back in action tomorrow, September 20, in the afternoon, when they play host to Defiance College right back at Garth Pleasant Arena with a 2 PM start.
