(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's soccer team continued its season on Saturday afternoon with a matchup against the Bears of Shawnee State. The Warriors used a second-half goal to leave with a 1-0 victory. RCU improves to 4-2-0 on the season, while Shawnee State falls to 1-5-1.
Mackenzie Fournier (1-0-0) made her first start of the season and also earned her first complete game shutout with five saves.
The first half saw RCU take control of the majority of the 45 minutes as they outshot the Bears 9-2 in the half, with seven of the Warriors' shots being on frame.
The second 45 minutes saw the Bears and Warriors both take their fair share of shots throughout the period. Following an SSU foul, RCU earned a free kick from about 30 yards out, where she was able to beat the Bears' keeper high for the 1-0 lead in the 51st minute.
The back-and-forth play continued as RCU narrowly outshot the Bears 8-7. A late run by Shawnee State was stopped to finalize the fourth shutout in the last five games.
