WARRIORS SECURE CRITICAL VICTORY OVER INDIANA TECH ON SENIOR DAY
WASHINGTON, Mich. - Two late goals by junior Olivia Howes helped the Warriors (6-5-6, 5-3-3) secure a vital 2-1 conference win over Indiana Tech (5-9-3, 4-5-2) as conference play nears its end for the 2024-25 season. After a quiet half by both teams, three total goals were scored in the game's final 16 minutes to make this one a barn-burner.
THE RUNDOWN
FIRST HALF
- Howes and the Warriors got the game's first crack at goal five minutes into the contest, with the forward having a header saved by Indiana Tech's Ursula Romero. On the other end, the Warriors' Sabrina Kiryakoza would successfully halt two shot attempts by Indiana Tech, before halting a third in the 15th minute. Midfielder Kaylah Joyce and defender Kennedy Fraser put up two more shots on goal midway through the half, but both were saved. Both teams entered halftime tied
SECOND HALF
- Kiryakoza logged another save before Howes challenged Romero twice five minutes later, with Romero again saving both shots. The Warriors continued to attack the Indiana Tech defense, but the game seemed destined for a standstill. Things took a turn for the worst when a second yellow would be shown to a Warrior defender for a transition foul, putting the Warriors down a player. However, Howes found gold on a errant ball from a saved shot, giving the Warriors the lead. Four minutes later, Howes scored on a similar opportunity again to give the Warriors a two-goal advantage. Indiana Tech nailed a shot in the 80th minute to give the Warriors a scare, but strong defense by RCU sealed the victory
