Six earn All-Academic honors in Women's Lacrosse
The vision of National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character program is to change the culture of sports. The mission is to provide training to instill the values that build character so students, coaches and parents know, do and value the right thing both on and off the field. Student-athletes creating character-based teams provide a blueprint for team leadership, developing confident, tough-minded, and fearless competitors. The Champions of Character program helps participants find the balance by keeping the five core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership – at the heart of the athletics experience. For more than a decade, Champions of Character has been making a difference in developing athletes, coaches and parents of character. The NAIA is committed to advancing character-driven athletes. Without further ado, Kristin Ammerman (SO/Fenton, MI) is this year's winner for Champions of Character award in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). Ammerman demonstrated great character on and off the field this season.
The Warrior Women's Lacrosse team was very successful in the classroom as well, earning 6 All-Academic honors. The All-Academic Team consisted of; Griffin Burton (JR/Riverview, MI), Kim Charney (SR/Avoca, MI), Allyssa Copley (SR/Holly, MI), Kendra Kujat (SR/Frankenmuth, MI), Brittany Sovran (SR/Belleriver, Ontario) and Lauren Weiss (JR/Lakeville, MI). Great job in the classroom!
Coach Cumper on the season, "Although the scoreboard did not always reflect our efforts, I am incredibly proud of the way these women performed. We finished the season despite injuries and illnesses among the team and overall, I am very proud of this team. Most of them learned the sport as they played this season and not many people can pick up a sport that quickly. I'm looking forward to adding more athletes to our program and continuing to grow."
