Women's Basketball earns several WHAC Postseason honors
(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its yearly postseason honors on Thursday morning, and several Rochester Christian Warriors women's basketball athletes earned honors.
COACH OF THE YEAR
JARED OCAMPO | 3RD SEASON
The Warriors under Jared Ocampo this season have earned their best record since the 2022-2023 season, improving by nine wins from last year's team. RCU was originally picked fifth in the WHAC Preseason Poll, working their way to a conference record of 18-4 and the number two seed in the tournament. The Warriors also won 20 games for the first time since the 2022-2023 season.
FIRST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE | ALL-DEFENSIVE TEAM
KENDAL ZEITER | SR | TROY, MICHIGAN
Kendal Zeiter earns her first All-Conference honor in basketball after earning a Second Team honor last fall during the volleyball season. Zeiter has made an impact in just her first season as a Warrior. Zeiter is 18th in the WHAC this season, averaging 13.1 points per game with a 52.2% field goal percentage. Zeiter leads the team as well in rebounds at 8.3 per game and blocks at 1.8 per game, which are sixth and third in the WHAC, respectively.
SECOND TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE | ALL-DEFENSIVE TEAM
SAMONE ANDREWS | SO | PORT HURON, MICHIGAN
Samone Andrews is earning her first All-Conference honor after being named to the All-Freshman team last season. Andrews was the second leading scorer for RCU this season, putting up 12.9 points per game, surpassing 20 points six times this season. Andrews was 20th in the WHAC in points per game, while also being one of the top defenders in the conference with 1.5 steals per game.
SECOND TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE
JACEY SOMERS | JR | BELLAIRE, MICHIGAN
Jacey Somers is being named to the WHAC Second Team for the third consecutive season after being one of the top contributors on the floor for RCU. Somers was a consistent scorer for RCU on the season, averaging 12.1 points per game, while also being a threat on the defensive end, blocking 1.1 shots per game, which was fourth most in the WHAC.
ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM
AMAL YOUNES | FR | WALLED LAKE, MICHIGAN
The freshman made a big impact from the point guard position this season. While only averaging 4.1 points per game, she was eighth in the WHAC in assists at three per game, while recording a 1.8 Assist-to-Turnover ratio, which was 15th in the WHAC.
CHAMPIONS OF CHARACTER TEAM
Ashley Loon was recognized as the team's WHAC Champion of Character. The senior was honored for her commitment to the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
The WHAC announced its All-Academic teams, which include sophomores and above in Academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.25. The ten Warriors honored were Mylah Aalse, Shahid Bakkar, Alaina Kellenberger, Savannah Laurenty, Emily Lockey, Ashley Loon, Melanie Moore, Jordan Peterson, Chloe Sakalas, and Jacey Somers.
