TURNOVERS GIVE WARRIORS TROUBLE AGAINST #RV MARIAN IN 2024-25 HOME OPENER
It was a rough outing for the Warriors (0-1) in their home opener on Tuesday night against #RV Marian (1-0) in Garth Pleasant Arena, with RCU falling 74-37. After a very troubling start on the offensive end, the Warriors found themselves trying to catch up with the Knights throughout the course of the night.
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - It was a rough outing for the Warriors (0-1) in their home opener on Tuesday night against #RV Marian (1-0) in Garth Pleasant Arena, with RCU falling 74-37. After a very troubling start on the offensive end, the Warriors found themselves trying to catch up with the Knights throughout the course of the night. Junior center Melanie Moore led RCU in points with 12, followed by Ashley Loon with 11. For Marian, four players scored in double-digits, led by guard Kenna Kirby with 17.
THE RUNDOWN
FIRST HALF
- After a three by Loon to start the game, the Knights exploded on a 15-0 run by forcing RCU turnovers and generating points on fastbreak opportunities. RCU wouldn't score from 8:48 to 2:35, where Jacey Somers nailed a midrange bucket over a Marian defender. It was a dominant first quarter for Marian's Abbey and Kiley McNally, who combined for 16 points and four steals
- RCU's Tambre Williams scored on a drop-step basket to start the second quarter, followed by a three from guard Karmyn Lowry. Despite the baskets, Marian's momentum continued with several buckets to extend the lead. Moore scored off an offensive rebound to add to the Warriors' tally, but RCU entered the second half under a 25-point deficit
SECOND HALF
- The Warriors struggled to shake the ice in the third quarter, with Marian's defense giving them fits outside the three-point line. Loon hit a midrange jumper to get the Warriors started, but the Knights continued to attack and nullify any positive play by the Warriors. Williams scored on a putback layup en route to ten total rebounds
- The fourth quarter was RCU's strongest, with the Warriors scoring 16 points - eight by Moore. After a few baskets by the Knights, Moore scored on a post move to start her 4-4 quarter. Shortly after, Moore handed off the ball to Loon for a three to keep RCU going. Guard Chloe Sakalas scored her first career basket on a layup off a Moore assist with two minutes remaining, but two late threes by Marian's Kirby shut the door on this one

The Warriors will play another Crossroads League opponent - Huntington (IN) - on the road on Thursday, Oct. 31.
