WARRIORS PREPARE FOR FIRST CONTEST WITH #25 INDIANA TECH
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Women's Basketball (7-6, 4-3) will look to get a big conference win on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., facing off against #25 Indiana Tech in the Schaefer Center. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since Rochester's 69-66 victory in the 2022-23 WHAC Tournament final.
THREE KEY THINGS
WARRIORS LOOK TO RECOVER FROM SIENA HEIGHTS DEFEAT
Rochester had a tough outing on Wednesday at home, falling to the Siena Heights Saints 73-41 in a rough offensive showing. Rochester will have much to clean up going into a matchup with a tough opponent on the road, particularly shooting efficiency. The offensive glass was a bright spot for Rochester, where the team had several rebounds. However, those opportunities will need to be converted into points.
FOY MAKES RUN FOR CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
After the departure of 2022-23 WHAC Player of the Year Kyra Whitaker, forward Erika Foy has stepped into the fold in a big way. The 2022-23 NAIA All-American Honorable Mention has done it all for Indiana Tech, averaging 16.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game.
Foy has won two WHAC Player of the Week awards while leading Indiana Tech to several key wins, including a 62-59 upset win over #5 Carroll College on Dec. 18.
WARRIOR VS. WARRIOR
This will be the first meeting between the programs since Rochester's dramatic upset victory over the top-seeded hosts, avenging an 85-83 loss in the 2021-22 WHAC Championship to the same opponent. Although Indiana Tech holds an edge in the matchup's overall record, both teams have plenty of history with big wins each.
COACH'S CORNER
Head Coach Jared Ocampo had this to say on facing Indiana Tech:
"Indiana Tech is well coached, and they play with a lot of discipline. They return just about everybody from last year, so it will be a good resiliency test for us. I'm looking forward to challenging our girls to bounce back, as these are the games we can't shy away from."
SPORTS INFORMATION SPOTLIGHT
Since 2020, Rochester and Indiana Tech are the only programs with a WHAC Regular Season or WHAC Tournament Championship.
AROUND THE CONFERENCE
With an 8-0 conference record, Concordia (MI) leads the WHAC, while Indiana Tech trails with a 7-0 record. Tech currently holds the edge over third-ranked Siena Heights thanks to a 48-42 victory earlier in the season. Rochester is currently ranked fifth, one game behind Cornerstone.
