SECOND HALF DEFENSE PROVES BIG FOR WARRIORS; SOMERS AND LODES POST STRONG DEBUTS

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - Women's Basketball (1-0) was triumphant on Homecoming Night, defeating the Lambton Lions 71-57 in front of a rowdy Garth Pleasant Arena crowd. The win marks the first for Head Coach Jared Ocampo, and the team celebrated its 2022-23 WHAC Tournament title at halftime of the contest. 

Rochester started out slow, with turnovers plaguing the team in the first half. However, Rochester was able to stay within striking distance thanks to great offense from Jacey Somers and Celeste Mershimer. Somers had an impressive debut for the Warriors, leading the team in scoring with 23 points and grabbing nine rebounds. That would mostly show in the second half, where Somers would hit a three during a game-changing 9-0 run to open the period. Rochester's pressing style would dominate the second half, and the Warriors maintained the lead throughout the second half. 

Returners Celeste Mershimer and Melanie Moore combined for 28 points in the contest, while junior Grace Lodes scored 11 of her own. Rochester made several great steals in the second half, and gave Lambton fits with their press. Moore and Lodes each posted double-doubles, combining for 24 boards.
