Softball downed in doubleheader to Defiance
(Defiance, OH) - The Rochester Christian softball team rounded out its trip to Ohio with a doubleheader against the Defiance Yellow Jackets on Sunday.
GAME 1 - DEFIANCE 16, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 2
Rory Miller (0-3) started in the circle, allowing six runs (four earned) on three hits with a strikeout.
The Yellow Jackets started the scoring away with six runs in the first inning and eight in the second inning, piecing together multiple singles.
RCU got on the board in the third inning with a pair of runs after the first baserunner reached with two outs. Jaya Forti walked and came around to score on an Amber Lamphier double. Lamphier would then come around to score on a wild pitch and a Chloe Gildea single.
Defiance added two more runs in the fourth to close out the scoring for both sides.
Emily Leusby pitched 1.1 innings, allowing eight runs on 11 hits with a pair of strikeouts. Kaylie Rickert closed out the final 2.1 innings with two runs on five hits with a strikeout.
GAME 2 - DEFIANCE 7, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 6
Amber Lamphier began the game in the circle for the Warriors, pitching 3.2 innings, scattering seven base runners with a pair of strikeouts.
RCU got the scoring started right away in the first with Jaya Forti hitting a leadoff single. Amber Lamphier would come up and earn her second and third RBIs on the day with a home run to left field. Chloe Gildea would follow up with a walk, and would later score on an error with Emma Cronkright reaching base.
The Warriors followed up in the third inning with another pair of runs with Makayla Lezotte scoring on an error and Brooklyn Ross and Emma Hoover completing a double steal with Hoover crossing the plate. The Warriors added a sixth run in the fourth inning with Chloe Gildea doubling to right field, scoring Jaya Forti.
The Yellow Jackets comeback began in the fifth inning plating two runs on an RBI double. After a scoreless sixth inning, DC was able to complete the comeback in the seventh as they would eventually load the bases and hit a walk-off single.
Emily Leusby pitched 2.1 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits with a strikeout. Kaylie Rickert (3-3) got one out in the fifth before the winning run crossed the plate.

The Warriors head out to Grand Rapids on Wednesday, April 1, as they face off against the Cornerstone Golden Eagles with a doubleheader beginning at 3 PM.
