Softball falls in doubleheader series to UNOH

(Livonia, MI) - The Rochester Christian Warriors softball team took on the Northwestern Ohio Racers on Sunday afternoon at the Madonna softball field. The Racers were able to earn earn wins in both games, claiming the sweep. 

 

GAME 1 - NORTHWESTERN OHIO 8, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 3

Kaylie Rickert (3-2) opened the game in the circle for the Warriors, pitching the first 1.2 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits with a strikeout. 

 

The Racers earned five runs across the first two innings, piecing together a couple of hits as well as a sacrifice fly. They would push the lead out to eight runs in the top of the fifth, forcing RCU to score to avoid the run rule ending. 

 

Brooklyn Ross began the fifth with a single, and Ella Hayes was able to reach on a sacrifice bunt due to an error. Chloe Gildea would grab the first RBI for the Warriors, reaching on an error, scoring both Meghan Ducharme and Emily Leusby, who were pinch runners. Emma Cronkright would continue the inning, hitting a double to left-center field. 

 

RCU would threaten to put runs on the board in both the sixth and seventh innings as they left a runner stranded in both innings. 

 

Amber Lamphier would come into pitch for the final 5.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with a strikeout. 

 

GAME 2 - NORTHWESTERN OHIO 11, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 4

Emily Leusby (3-6) pitched nearly the full game with 5.2 innings pitched, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits with five strikeouts. 

 

The Warriors got on the board first in the opening frame with Jaya Forti opening up with a single with Emma Hoover following with a walk. Makayla Lezotte would following it up with a two-RBI single to score both of those runners. 

 

UNOH would regain the lead with five runs over the next two innings, making it 5-2. RCU responded in the bottom of the third with two runs as Angelina Viviano (double) and Makayla Lezotte (single) brought home those runs. 

 

The Racers would extend the lead back out with another two innings, scoring five runs in the fifth and sixth to close out the game. 

 

Amber Lamphier got the final out for the team, inducing a lineout to left field. 

 

UP NEXT

The Warriors will be back in action on Wednesday, March 25, as they will host the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils at the Hawk in Farmington Hills, Michigan, with the first pitch of the doubleheader scheduled for 3 PM.
