Softball ends Spring Break trip going 6-4

(Myrtle Beach, SC) - The Rochester Christian softball team rounded out its Spring Break trip down in South Carolina on Saturday with a pair of games against Brevard and Farleigh Dickinson - Florham. RCU extended its win streak to five games after earning a 9-4 win against Brevard, before getting the streak snapped against FDU - Florham. RCU improves its season record to 8-10. 

 

GAME 1 - ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 9, BREVARD 4

Emily Leusby (3-4) earned the win after pitching a complete game, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts. 

 

Both teams were able to put up crooked numbers in the first inning as both teams tallied a trio of runs. Angelina Viviano hit home Jaya Forti with Brooklyn Ross singling home Emma Hoover and Amber Lamphier reaching on a fielder's choice with Viviano scoring. Brevard hit a double and a single to score their three runs. 

 

Brevard took a lead in the third inning, scoring on a wild pitch. The lead didn't last long with RCU's Emma Cronkright bringing home Emma Hoover and Jaya Forti on a single, before taking on three more runs in the fifth. Jaya Forti reached on an error that would wind up scoring Meghan Ducharme, and Emma Hoover had a two-RBI single, scoring Forti and Emily Leusby

 

The final inning saw Emma Hoover tack on one more run with Jaya Forti scoring another run. 

 

GAME 2 - FDU - FLORHAM 8, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 2

Rory Miller (0-2) opened the game in the circle and pitched the first 2.2 innings, allowing five runs (one earned) with a strikeout.

 

After FDU - Florham took an early 1-0 lead, the Warriors snatched the lead with two runs in the second inning after Amber Lamphier, Ella Hayes, and Chloe Gildea recorded three straight hits. 

 

From the second inning on, FDU - Florham was able to take control of the game with four runs in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the sixth. 

 

Amber Lamphier would come in and pitch in the third inning and finish out the final 3.1 innings with three runs (none earned) on four hits with a trio of strikeouts. 

 

UP NEXT

The Warriors are back in action as they return home for a doubleheader on March 17, when they host the Tigers from Grace Christian starting at 2 PM.
