Softball earns another pair of wins, improves streak to four games
(Myrtle Beach, SC) - The Rochester Christian softball team headed into the second-to-last day of their spring break trip on Friday with games against Cairn and Penn State - Schuylkill. The Warriors pulled off their second run-rule win of the trip with a 10-1 win over Cairn, before Amber Lamphier pitched a complete game shutout gem in the win over Penn State - Schuylkill to make it a four-game win streak and improve the record to 7-9 on the season.
GAME 1 - ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 10, CAIRN 1
Kaylie Rickert (3-1) earned her third win on the season, pitching the full five innings with one unearned run on four hits with a trio of strikeouts. Rickert had a pair of 1-2-3 innings in the game.
The Warriors got in the scoring column each of the five innings that were played, with Jaya Forit once again beginning the game with a base hit and coming around to score on an Emma Cronkright fielder's choice. Cairn responded with their sole run of the game on an RBI single.
Jaya Forti once again aided the RCU offense with an RBI double to score Brooklyn Ross, with Ema Hoover doubling to left field with a two-RBI double, and Chloe Gildea and Jada Forti scoring. Chloe Gildea continued the RCU scoring in the third inning with a two-RBI single, with Kaylie Rickert and Brooklyn Ross scoring.
In the fourth and fifth innings, RCU was able to grab two runs as the Warriors pushed the lead out to a run rule. Emma Hoover scored on a wild pitch, with Amber Lamphier later reaching on a fielder's choice, allowing Emma Cronkright to score.
The final inning had Jaya Forti scoring from second, following an error, before Makayla Lezotte hit a sacrifice fly and scored Emma Cronkright.
GAME 2 - ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 2, PENN STATE - SCHUYLKILL 0
Amber Lamphier (2-2) earned her second win of the season with a complete game shutout, allowing two hits with a career high nine strikeouts.
Both teams left a runner on base in the first inning, with Jaya Forti able to reach second, but a couple of lineouts left her stranded.
RCU put up the first run of the game when Makayla Lezotte came around to score after reaching base with a single.
Jaya Forti would continue getting on base with a single in the third, and would eventually come around to score another run on an Emma Cronkright RBI single.
Amber Lamphier would get the next 12 batters out consecutively until the seventh inning. Two runners would reach base, by way of an error and a single before Lamphier struck out the final two batters of the game.
