Softball drops two against Pikeville and Penn

(Myrtle Beach, SC) - The Rochester Christian softball team continued play at the Myrtle Beach Fastpitch Classic on Tuesday with a pair of games against Pikeville (NAIA) and Penn (NCAA Division III). The Warriors would fall in a tight 7-5 game against Pikeville, before Penn earned a 7-0 win. 

 

GAME 1 - PIKEVILLE 7, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 5

Amber Lamphier (0-2) started the game in the circle, pitching the first 2.2 innings, striking out a pair of batters. 

 

A scoreless first inning had both teams getting runners on base, but neither team abel to push runs across the board. RCU grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the second with Emma Hoover bringing home Brooklyn Ross and Chloe Gildea scoring Hoover with a single. 

 

A big third inning for the Bears, plated six runs by way of piecing together multiple hits to earn the lead in the game. The Warriors inched closer in the fourth with Amber Lamphier and Emma Cronkright singling home runs and Chloe Gildea hitting an RBI groundout. 

 

Another two innings would go by with neither team being able to plate a run until the seventh as Pikeville got an insurance run. 

 

Kaylie Rickert finished the game with 4.1 innings. Rickert allowed one unearned run on four hits. 

 

GAME 2 - PENN 7, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 0

Emily Leusby (1-4) started the game in the circle for RCU with three innings pitched, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits with two strikeouts. 

 

The Warriors would see the bats go quiet in the second game of the day with three hits, but able to work four walks as they left eight runners on base throughout the game. 

 

Penn took an early lead in the second with a four-run inning, as well as plating a run in the third, fourth, and sixth to earn the 7-0 win. 

 

Rory Miller came in, in relief for the Warriors, pitching the final three innings. Miller allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit with a pair of strikeouts.

The Warriors have two games tomorrow, March 11, facing off against Penn State - Beaver and Cairn at 9 and 11 AM, respectively.
