Softball splits day 1 of Spring Break trip
(Myrtle Beach, SC) - The Rochester Christian softball team returned to action on Monday with a pair of games to kick off its 2026 Spring Break Trip down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Warriors would split their first day of competition, including earning a 4-1 win over Penn State - Scranton.
GAME 1 - SPARTANBURG METHODIST 6, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 0
Emily Leusby (1-3) was the starter for the Warriors in the circle, pitching a complete game.
The Pioneers got the game started right in the first inning with a trio of runs scored, before the next couple of innings would go quickly, as there would only be a couple of runners left on base on both sides.
Sprtandburg Methodist picked up another two runs in the sixth to move the lead up to 5-0. Angelina Viviano got the Warriors in the hit column in the sixth with a single to right field. RCU threatened to add runs in the seventh, loading the bases with Emily Leusby and Brooklyn Ross hitting singles and Makayla Lezotte walking.
GAME 2 - ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 4, PENN STATE - SCRANTON 1
Kaylie Rickert (2-1) earned the win in the circle on the day, starting and pitching four inning, allowing only two hits with one earned run and striking out a season high seven batters.
Neither team scored in the first inning and a half, before RCU's Amber Lamphier hit in Angelina Viviano to score the game first run. The bottom of the third would once again see RCU put a run on the board with Chloe Gildea starting the inning off with a bunt single, Jaya Forti hitting a single and Emma Cronkright hitting an RBI groundout scoring Meghan Ducharme (pinch running for Gildea).
The Scranton Lions were able to draw within a run in the fourth, piecing together a pair of hits to score off of Kaylie Rickert.
Ella Hayes began the fifth inning with a double, and Jaya Forti followed up with a bunt single to bring Makayla Lezotte up to bat. Lezotte would send a double to right field (would be out trying to stretch the hit into a triple) while Hayes and Forti would come around to score, giving RCU two vital insurance runs.
The sixth and seventh innings would see the Scranton Lions go down quietly as RCU picked up its third win of the season.
Rory Miller (1) earned the save as she pitched the final three innings, only allowing one hit with four strikeouts in the game.
