Softball downed in doubleheader to NCAA Division 1 Oakland

(Rochester, MI) - The Rochester Christian softball team resumed play, taking on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. After a 10-1 first game of the doubleheader, the two teams played tight in game two, with RCU holding a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning, before OU came back in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead. 

GAME 1 - OAKLAND 10, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 1

Kaylie Rickert (1-2) pitched the full four innings in the circle, allowing 10 runs (five earned).

The Golden Grizzlies got the scoring started right away over the first two innings, putting up nine runs with two home runs. Following a scoreless third, OU put the 10th run on the board, making it 10-0. 

The Warriors were able to get on the board in the fifth inning with Makayla Lezotte hitting a single, and would eventually come around to score on a passed ball. 

GAME 2 - OAKLAND 3, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 1

Emily Leusby (1-2) pitched all six innings in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts. 

Jaya Forti opened the game with a walk and a stolen base and would eventually score on a Emma Cronkright on a single up the middle. A Makayla Lezotte double to right field put the Warriors on second and third, before the final two outs of the inning left them stranded. 

A solid couple of innings from Emily Leusby on the pitching end, saw the 1-0 lead turn to the Golden Grizzlies, as they grabbed a pair of runs on a single to center, and would earn another in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to go up 3-0. RCU would go down in order to close out the final two innings.

The Warriors will head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for their Spring Break trip which begins on March 9, when they take on Spartenburg Methodist and Penn State - Scranton.
