ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - A rainy day didn't stop the runs from coming for either the Warriors (2-17, 0-6) or Michigan-Dearborn (5-17, 3-3) on March 30. The Wolverines found more success at bat during the day, taking both doubleheader games. Jessica Laird and Emma Cronkright led the Warriors in RBI, with the pair combining for five.
GAME ONE - L, 5-13
The Warriors were put into a bind in the first inning as Michigan-Dearborn climbed to a 4-0 lead early. A chance to remedy the damage came in the second inning, where the Warriors loaded the bases following a single from Laird and a reach on error by Payton Parrish. However, the Warriors were handed three consecutive outs to leave empty-handed.
The third inning saw the Warriors' first score of the day, with Laird singling to left field to give sophomore Jaya Forti a run. The Warriors put themselves in another bases-loaded situation, but a pivotal strikeout from the maize and blue kept them out of reach. A Wolverine grand slam extended the lead to seven before a Madelyn Latham sacrifice hit scored a run for Jayde Dominey-McLean.
Two more Wolverine homers kept the lead growing before another four-run inning in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Warriors started to score some runs, beginning with a score on error by Dominey-McLean. Laird produced her second and third RBI with a double to left field to cut the deficit to eight. However, a strikeout ended the game before the Warriors could continue.
GAME TWO - L, 3-6
Fewer scores occurred in the second game, but Michigan-Dearborn continued where they left off with four runs in the opening two innings. The Warriors found a response in the third, with Forti showing patience in a bases-loaded situation to force a walk and score.
The Wolverines produced two more runs in the next two innings, but the Warriors started to mount a comeback in the sixth inning thanks to Latham and Cronkright. Latham registered a double to center field before Cronkright followed up with a single to score Latham and Forti. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the next six at-bats were all outs, preventing the comeback effort from coming to fruition.
