CANTON, Ohio - The Warriors (2-9) didn't manage to win against the Malone Pioneers (13-4) on Wednesday afternoon, falling short in both games of the March 13 doubleheader. After a tough first game, the Warriors pushed for a win in the second game but couldn't match the Pioneers' run output in the end.
GAME ONE - L, 1-10
It wasn't the start RCU would've hoped for, as the Pioneers got a 9-0 lead after the first two innings. Malone hit three home runs to get things started and put the Warriors on their heels. On the bright side, Jaya Forti continued adding to her season hits total, hitting a single to get Jessica Laird to home plate for the Warriors' first score. Unfortunately for the Warriors, that momentum wasn't sustained in the fourth and fifth innings, as the Pioneers scored another run. The Warriors put three players on base in the top of the fifth, but a final out cut the game short before a score could be made.
GAME TWO - L, 3-7
The Warriors fought hard in the second game, taking a lead in the second inning after great baserunning by Emma Cronkright earned the Warriors a score off an error by the Pioneers. However, Malone answered back with seven unanswered runs across the next three innings to take a commanding lead. The Warriors didn't get discouraged, however, putting up a fight in the sixth inning. After Forti was hit by a pitch and advanced to first, Alicia McConnell hit her first home run of the season, smashing a ball into left centerfield to give the Warriors a crack at a comeback. However, two more outs ended the inning before the Warriors could add more points on the board.
Kylee Dillard provided an opportunity for the Warriors in the seventh, hitting a double to right center before advancing to third base. However, the Warriors couldn't capitalize, and the game ended with a final score of 7-3.
STAT OF THE GAME
Forti now has a team-leading ten hits on the season.
UP NEXT
The Warriors look to get out of this stretch during another non-conference road trip on Saturday, March 16, when the team plays a doubleheader against Trinity Christian at 1 p.m.
