MYRTLE BEACH, SC. - The Warriors got their season started off 1-1, with a 17-7 loss against Penn State Beaver to open the day, followed by a win against New Jersey City 14-2. Rochester was able to show resilience after the tough opening game and got a big win to get some momentum heading into the second day of the Classic.
Rochester vs. PSU Beaver - L 7-17
The Warriors' first game started off strong, with the Warriors jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first when sophomore Emma Cronkight got a hit that allowed Sarah Hall, Alicia McConnell, and Jaya Forti to score.
Rochester built on the lead when Elizabeth Bees, Kylee Dillard, and Makayla Orman drove in runs to extend the lead to 6-0 in the 2nd. However, PSU Beaver went on a huge scoring run, tying the game. Tori Dupuis would score off a single by Bees to regain the lead.
That would be the end of the scoring for Rochester, as the PSU Beaver went on to score 10 unanswered.
Rochester vs. New Jersey City - W 14-2
Rochester bounced back in a big way in the following game, with the team being led by senior Tessa Gage, who was able to get four hits off during the contest. Gage had three doubles during the game, giving the Warriors all the offensive momentum needed to get its first win of the season.
Giorgia Allessio-Verning would help get the first Rochester score of the contest, grounding out but securing a run. Rochester would continue the momentum into the fourth inning, where the team would score six runs. Dupuis hit a triple during the inning.
Rochester was able to defend the field well, only allowing two runs during the game.
