Men's Wreslting competes at the Bruce Dickey Open on Sunday
(Alma, MI) - The Rochester Christian men's wrestling team competed at the Alma Open on Sunday. The Warriors saw solid success at the event with five different wrestlers placing within the top-five, while earning a team record of 21-22 for the tournament.
Earning top placements were Julian Rojas, Jacob Gonzales, David VanDaele, Mario Orueta III, and Dakota Quinlan.
Julian Rojas finished with a record of 2-1, while earning second place in the 141 weight class (WC). Rojas earned a major decision with a 18-4 score, following that with a 4-1 decision win. Rojas would drop the championship match by way of a fall.
David VanDaele would wrestle his way through the 184 WC consolation bracket enroute to his third-place finish and a 4-1 record. VanDaele earned a fall win in 1:36, before three straight matches going to a decision with 8-1, 7-2, and a 4-3 scores.
Mario Orueta III placed fourth in the 125 WC, earning a record of 3-1. Orueta III won his first match by way of a major decision (14-0), before dropping the semifinal match and winning his next two matches with a fall (1:34) and decision (6-2).
The final placement was Dakota Quinlan with a fifth-place finish after going 4-2. Quinlan earned his wins with a fall (3:46), major decision (13-4) and a pair of decision wins (4-3 and 9-6).
