Men's Wrestling finish Pepsi Patriot Open; Alayan and Kuenzer earn placements

(Corbin, KY) - The Rochester Christian men's wrestling team competed at the Pepsi Patriot Open in Corbin, Kentucky, on Saturday. The Warriors saw a pair of wrestlers place within the top-5, while the team had a record of 32-38 overall on Saturday. 

 

Nick Alayan was the top Warrior for the Pepsi Patrio Open, earning a second-place finish in the open division, going 4-1. Alayan took down the #23-ranked wrestler in the quarterfinals before earning a tight 8-6 decision over the fifth-ranked wrestler in the semifinal. 

 

In the Fr/So division, Sawyer Kuenzer would earn a fifth-place finish, going 4-2, dropping his first match in the semifinals. Kuenzer picked up a tech fall, a fall, and a match decision for his three early wins. 

 

After dropping his second-round match, Mario Orueta III would win his next three matches, two by decision, to end the day with a 4-2 record. 

 

Sebastian Prisbe and Jacob Gonzales would both earn a 3-2 record for the tournament, while Dakota Quinlan, Hunter Thomson, Christian Preston, and Camden Neumann all tallied 2-2 records.
