Men's Volleyball drops weekend games against Defiance and Indiana Tech

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian men's volleyball team continued its season with a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday against the Defiance Yellow Jackets and Indiana Tech Warriors. RCU played three tight sets against Defiance before falling on Saturday to Indiana Tech. 

 

MATCH 1 - DEFIANCE 3, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 0

RCU took five of the first eight points in the set with Josh Eaton earning the Warriors first kill. DC scored the five of the next eight points in order to tie the set. Throughout the remainder of the set, the two teams would go back-and-forth in scoring with Jailen Tatum and Claudio Arato getting in on the scoring. RCU took a 28-27 lead, late before the Yellow Jackets scored four of the final five points. 

 

A Jailen Tatum kill would tie the second set at four points, before Defiance was able to gain a strong hold in the set. The Yellow Jackets took advantage of RCU errors, as they moved out to a 16-12 lead. Xander Slate was able to get a kill before DC took the final two points in the set. 

 

Emarian Buchanan started RCU off on the right foot in the final set with a kill with the back-and-forth battle starting. Josh Eaton kept working hard in the set as he got six kills in the set before Defiance got the final points to win the match. 

 

Josh Eaton led the attack with 18 kills with only five errors, while Jonathan Chow tallied 26 assists. Nehemiah Rosillo dug out nine attacks in the game, with Jonathan Chow and Emarian Buchanan each blocking a pair of attacks. 

 

MATCH 2 - INDIANA TECH 3, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 0

Jailen Tatum earned the first RCU point as the teams would get a 4-4 tie. From that point IIT would start to pull away in the set, while RCU would get kills from Jeremy Lee and Claudio Arato sprinkled throughout the rest of the set. 

 

Josh Eaton scored the first kill in set number two for RCU. The two teams would rally points off each other, with neither team earning more than a two point lead. Josh Eaton continued his hot hitting in the set with the final five kills for RCU, before IIT closed out the set. 

 

The final set began with Claudio Arato grabbing the first point of the set and the teams nearly scoring points back and forth until IIT took a 8-6 lead. IIT would then score six straight points before Jeremy Lee earned a kill. IIT earned 11 of the final 19 points to earn the match win. 

 

Josh Eaton once again led the Warriors with 17 kills in the match, with Jonathan Chow earning 24 assists. Defensively, Nehemiah Rosillo diggin out 13 attacks.

The Warriors will return home for their final three home games of the season as they begin by taking on Cornerstone on Tuesday, March 24, at 7 PM.
