Men's Volleyball drops WHAC contest to Mount Vernon Nazarene
(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian men's volleyball team played its fourth straight match at the Garth Pleasant Arena, this time taking on the Cougars from Mount Vernon Nazarene. The Cougars were able to grab leads early in each set, en route to the 3-0 match win.
The Cougars jumped out to an early lead, making it 8-1, before Xander Slate got the first two kills for RCU. MVNU continued to extend its lead while Josh Eaton grabbed a couple of kills and Emarian Buchanan and Jonathan Chow earned blocks. Mount Vernon scored eight of the last 11 points to take the first set.
Both sides came out strong in the first part of the set, as Bao Nguyen, Josh Eaton, and Jonathan Chow aided the game to an 8-9 deficit. From that point, MVNU would take command and score 16 of the final 20 points to go up 2-0.
The final set of the evening began with an MVNU 4-0 run, before Xander Slate got the Warriors' first point on a kill. Emarion Buchanan and Josh Eaton each added kills as the two teams began to battle back-and-forth, till Mount Vernon gained a 14-9 advantage. The Cougars would end the match on an 11-5 run to claim the match win.
TOP PERFORMERS
Josh Eaton led the attack on the night with six kills, while Xander Slate tallied three. Jonathan Chow assisted on 14 kills on the evening.
Nehemiah Rosillo dug out six attacks in the match, with Jonathan Chow second with five.
