AUGUSTA, MI - After being ranked last in the WHAC's 2023 Preseason Poll, Men's Golf was able to turn heads on Monday and Tuesday, earning its highest finish after stroke play (second) and highest finish in the final round (fourth) in program history.
"I'm very happy and certainly proud of our guys for their showing this week," Head Coach Quin Rice said. "To finish second after the stroke play round shows a real step forward for our program."
Leading the Warriors in stroke play were freshman Marc Bofarull and senior Dominic Gappy. The two scored a 73, with freshman Tomas Beltran and sophomore Daniel Runkel not far behind. In match play against Northwestern Ohio, Bofarull won his game while Beltran tied.
"Marc's had a great fall individually as a freshman, and we're certainly excited for his future here, along with the rest of our newcomers," Rice said.
Rochester played its second match against Lourdes for third place in the event, falling short 3.5-1.5. However, Rice and his team are optimistic about the event's outlook.
"As a whole, the conference preview is meant to give everyone a chance to preview our conference championship course in the spring," Rice said. "The hope is that we can build off this good showing for the rest of the fall and in the spring. We're pretty excited based on how the last few days have gone."
The team will return to action on Friday, Sept. 29, playing in the Cleary Fall Invitational.
