RC Golfers Have Record-Setting Day
WAUSEON, Ohio—Early Tuesday morning the Rochester College men's and women's golf team headed to Ohio with a bevy of confidence. Later that night, they returned with that same confidence and a number of school records to go along with it.
Freshman Chet Ryeson made his collegiate debut with a splash as he finished the day as the tournament medalist shooting a 68, leaving him four under par. Ryeson's performance was one for the record books as he shot the tournament record at Ironwood Golf Course in Ohio. He also left his mark in the RC record books as he now holds the record for the "Best 18-Hole Score" and tied the record for "Best 9-Hole Score" with a 33. Powered by the freshman's record-setting day the men took fifth place with a team score of 310.
Before the day was finished the women's golf team took their swings into the record books as well. Freshman Samantha Tarakoff led the team with a score of 80, which broke the RC women's record for the "Best 18-Hole Score." She also set the "Best 9-Hole Score" with her effort on the back nine holes, shooting a 36. Tarakoff teamed up with Junior Orie Ramos' score of 89, Senior Felicia Hamel's score of 91, Freshman Kristin Loiselle's score of 92, and Freshman Lindsey Baslock's score of 94 to break the RC women's record for "Best One-Day Team Score" of a 352. The team's performance landed them with third place in the tournament.
Coach Bissett on the record-setting day, "I was really proud of both teams today. The weather was the hottest I have ever seen at a tournament. I think we went through three cases of water. What Chet and Samantha did today was impressive under any conditions, but especially in today's conditions. To have two freshmen come in and shoot like that is a good sign for the future. Both teams have started the season off on the right foot. We just have to keep things going now."
