Bio
Entering his eighth season, Quin Rice has been a key part of RCU's success over the past four seasons. With Coach Rice on staff, the Warriors have amassed a 109-58 record, including the 2020-21 WHAC Championship title. Rice is instrumental in the scouting of future opponents and the day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball program. He also serves as the program’s recruiting coordinator.
While here, Rice has been instrumental in recruiting, coaching, and developing nine All-WHAC selections and two NAIA All-Americans: Virgil Walker (2021) and Armand Cartwright (2020). In addition, during Rice's time, the Warriors have had two players named WHAC Newcomer of the Year: Gunner Walters (2023) and Virgil Walker (2021).
Rice was added to the RCU men’s basketball staff in April of 2019. Rice most recently served as a Graduate Assistant at Central Michigan University under 2008 AP Division I National Coach of the Year Keno Davis. While at Central Michigan, the Chippewas recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1965-67. While at CMU, Rice was responsible for advanced scouting, along with aiding in the day-to-day operations of the program.
Prior to joining the Chippewas, Rice was a Student Assistant and Basketball Operations Coordinator for the Ferris State men’s basketball program, under current Central Michigan University head coach and 2018 National Champion and NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year Andy Bronkema. While working for Ferris’s team, Rice was part of back-to-back GLIAC tournament championships, a Sweet Sixteen berth in 2016, and a GLIAC regular season championship in 2017. The 2016-17 Ferris State team also won a then-school-record 28 games.
The Marcellus, Michigan native graduated with a master’s degree in Sports Administration from Central Michigan in 2019 and received his undergraduate bachelor’s degree from Ferris State in 2017. He also serves as the program’s head reserve team coach and is the director of golf at RCU. He has been around coaching his entire life; his father, grandfather, and uncle have all coached student-athletes in the state of Michigan for decades.
COACH PLEASANT’S THOUGHTS ON COACH RICE:
“Coach Rice is a joy to work with. He possesses a great basketball mind and works as hard as anyone I’ve been around in the coaching profession in the last 20 years. He has learned from great coaches and is full of good ideas. Most importantly, Quin is a man of deep integrity and does a great job reflecting our core values to the young men in our program. He balances his recruiting efforts while investing equal energy to our current players. Quin loves RCU and is always willing to step up and help in other areas. You can find him helping out the department in a plethora of ways. In addition, he is our golf coach. Most importantly, Quin has become a trusted friend. Our program is better because he’s here.”
