Men's Basketball upset bid falls short to #13 Indiana Tech
(Fort Wayne, IN) - The Rochester Christian men's basketball team took on the 13th-ranked Indiana Tech Warriors on Saturday afternoon. A second-half comeback attempt by Indiana Tech would be accomplished, as they outscored RCU, 45-32, in the second-half as they went on to win 83-76.
RCU now falls to 13-7 on the season, while being 8-6 in conference play.
FIRST HALF
IIT took the lead early in the gam, going up 10-4 over the first 1:45, before RCU quickly tied the game at 10 and took the 13-10 lead with three-pointers from Dustin Farrow, Darnell Turner Jr., and Linden Holder. Turner Jr. and Williams would each add a score before both teams would go scoreless over the next two-and-a-half minutes.
Both Warrior teams would start to rattle off scores, holding more than a five-point lead, until RCU would go on a 19-8 run over the final 6:02 of the half. In that span, Ashton Goul would earn multiple three-pointers, while Darnell Turner Jr. and James Fisher added several buckets themselves.
SECOND HALF
The second 20 minutes began similarly with both teams scoring back-and-forth, and would see IIT battle back and retake the lead, 3:21 into the half. Dustin Farrow and Tymias Williams hit back-to-back three-pointers as RCU's shots continued to fall. A 12-3 run by the IIT Warriors would give them a 62-56 lead at the midway mark.
James Fisher and Tymias Williams continued to knock down shots as they tried to keep pace with the Indiana Tech offense, pulling in as close to three points with Linden Holder's three-pointer. A couple of made buckets from IIT would extend the lead back to nine points, before a pair of Holder's three's (traditional and an and-1) got RCU to within five points, but the IIT offense would hit free throws to fend off the upset bid.
