Men's Basketball drops road contest at UNOH

(Lima, OH) - The Rochester Christian men's basketball team headed down to Ohio for its most recent matchup against the Northwestern Ohio Racers, as the teams look to begin the second half of the WHAC schedule. The Racers would use a 44-42 advantage in the first half in order to claim the win. RCU falls to 12-6 on the season a 7-5 in conference play. 

 

FIRST HALF

A scoreless first minute from both sides was broken with a Linden Holder layup. From that point the two teams would start to score back and forth with Darnell Turner Jr. and Tymias Williams earning early points. Holder and Tyler Allen recorded back-to-back three pointers in order to jump out to a 12-6 lead. Dustin Farrow scored the next two RCU points nearly two-and-a-half minutes later, followed up by a Jamil Mashhour three. 

 

Tyler Allen would hit another three-pointer, following a couple of James Fisher free throws. The Racers were able to tie the game up at 27 points, with Linden Holder hitting a three and Jamil Mashhour scoring a bucket to break the short-lived tie. UNOH would slowly climb back in hitting a combination of free throws and layups as the back and forth scoring continued. Tymias Williams hit a three-pointer to spark an 8-0 run with Ashton Goul scoring the next five points. Following Goul's three, UNOH scored the final 10 points in the half to take the two-point lead. 

 

SECOND HALF

Darnell Turner Jr. and James Fisher opened the second half with scores on consecutive possessions. A couple of possessions later Linden Holder and Tyler Allen would hit a pair of threes and Holder would add a second three following Allen's. Tymias Williams scored a big "and-1" that gave RCU a nine-point lead in the game. The Racers would stab away at that lead over the next couple of minutes. 

 

Darnell Turner Jr. would score the final four points of the game for the Warriors with a layup and a pair of free throws, which would come with two minutes remaining. The Racers were able to rally in the final minutes to score the leading bucket with six seconds left. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

Five different Warriors scored in double figures for the day, with Linden Holder leading the way with 16 points as Tymias Williams, Tyler Allen, Ashton Goul, and James Fisher scored 15, 14, 11, and 10 points respectively. Darnell Turner Jr. assisted on four scores in the game. 

 

James Fisher recorded a double-double in the game with 13 rebounds. Tymias Williams created five turnovers on the day with James Fisher blocking five shots.

RCU will return to the Garth Pleasant Arena on Wednesday, January 21, as they will play host to the Defiance Yellow Jackets at 7:30 PM.
