Baseball drops non-conference game to NCAA Division 1 Oakland
(Rochester, MI) - The Rochester Christian baseball team headed down the road to take on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in a single game. After a pair of early leads in the game, Oakland was able to pull away in the third inning, scoring 11 runs.
Lance Jones began the game on the mound, throwing a scoreless first inning with a pair of walks.
RCU jumped out on the Golden Grizzlies in the first inning putting up four runs. Cael Kuzinski put up the first run, scoring on an error, before Beau Falkenhagen hit a sacrifice fly and Parker Lassner and Matthew Shakotko hit a single and double, respectively.
OU was able to tie the game back up at four runs in the bottom of the second with a home run, followed by an RBI double and RBI single.
The Warriors got two of the first three batters on base in the third inning with both runners eventually coming around to score with Nathaniel Crane scoring on an error and Matthew Shakotko hitting a sacrifice fly. OU put up an 11-spot on the RCU pitching in the bottom of half of the inning, followed by a trio of runs in the fourth to take a commanding lead.
RCU next got in the scoring column in the sixth inning with Ryder Zeiman scoring on a wild pitch. The Warriors got five runs closer in the seventh inning with a trio of RBI singles from Parker Lassner, Cael Kuzinski, and Reece Jones before Ayden Novak and Dakota Shafer both hit sacrifice flies.
A leadoff triple from Beau Falkenhagen, followed by a sacrifice fly from Parker Lassner, got the Warriors their 13th and final run of the game.
Louis Frontero (0.2 innings), Keaton Diserens (1.0 innings), Christian Rivera (0-1) (1.0 innings), Joseph Arends (1.2 innings), Gavin Swigart (1.1 innings), and Connor Foreman (1.1 innings) combined to pitched the final seven frames.
